LIFE AS A MEMBER OF MALIYO BOOTCAMP

I want to talk to you about my life as a member of the Maliyo boot camp. So what exactly is Maliyo. Maliyo is a gaming company that creates African-inspired games and I must say their games are really good.

Maliyo had a Bootcamp for training inspiring people who want to learn game development. I wanted to enter the Maliyo boot camp hoping to improve my skills as a game developer.

The first thing they told me to do was to fill a form which I did then sent me a video on C# and an article then I went through them then after that they told me I have to take a test for me to be able to enter the boot camp.

That day I remembered vividly I had to rush back from school after taking my school exams then opened my laptop to take the test and when I went we first joined a Google meeting and after that, they sent us a test and what I saw was a pure C# test which I was a bit surprised I must admit but I knew that might happen anyway I answered the first five questions easy then I started seeing somethings that annoyed me.

They sent me a code block and will ask me a line of that code block and tell them what will happen and this was taking up time I think I had fifteen minutes to finish the test ad there were twenty questions, those code block questions if there was only one question I would not have been annoyed believe me but there were about eleven questions( If not more) anyway I did my best and submitted and they said sixty percent and above will pass, forty percent below will enter and from forty to sixty percent they will think about it.

The score that I got was nine out of twenty then I converted it to percentage and it was forty-five percent and I was sad yes they said they would think about it but it was not sure so I just let it pass and it was my brother that kept on making me believe and so I kept on having and boom I was in.

I was so excited to have passed anyway we went through the next step filled another form and we had a Google meeting with the CEO of Maliyo and he told us about some of the processes of what and how Maliyo will conduct the boot camp then there were roles of cell leads and events organizers and I chose to be a cell lead I wanted to have an experience with leadership and I was chosen to be one of the leaders of the cells and I think for a cell there about twenty cell members and fifteen cells so I was really glad to lead my cell which was cell nine.

Then when I first came to my cell to my surprise there was no one there and I checked the other cells and I saw that some of their members were already there and one of the members of Maliyo games asked me what was happening and I told him I did not know then he suggested I should send my members an email which I obliged and did then they started coming little by little then I chose my assistant and conducted my first Google meeting and I did it with just three people but I did not mind I was still happy about my first meeting then when I finished the meeting.

There was a little controversy that happened then someone asked me if a cell lead can kick someone out of a cell and I said I am not sure that he should ask one of the members at Maliyo and later he said I should not worry. Then later one the cell lead of cell seven sent me a picture of a conversation with the person I just spoke to, and I must admit I was confused.

Then that is when that person told me about what was going on that the cell lead of cell seven sent them a telegram link and wrote a few rules and one of them stated

“ if you do not follow these rules you will be kicked out of the cell and the boot camp ”

and the person said he did not like what she wrote that she should edit it and she kicked him out of the telegram group, then the cell member reported the issue to one of the members at Maliyo and he said he should apologize to the cell lead or his cell will be changed and he was annoyed because the cell lead does not have that kind of power and the member of Maliyo gave him an ultimatum then he said he cannot kiss ass but if he should change cells they should put him in cell four because he likes the cell lead and the member of Maliyo said he will put me in my cell and he was explaining it to me and I talked to the cell lead of cell seven and the Maliyo worker. Those are some of my experiences from my boot camp journey.
